There are many reasons that call for celebration. Recession or no recession, people always recognize the importance of special occasions, be they weddings, anniversaries, graduations and other special events. Without question it's easy to spend a small fortune when planning a party, frankly, there's no need to break the bank to have a fun-filled party. Apply the following budget party ideas, add a little creativity and you will be able have a memorable party for all the right reasons; and you won't go broke doing so.

The first and foremost key is that you must stay focused on what's really important for the party; such things as paying tribute to guests of honor, building relationships and just plain having good fun. If you concentrate on these important things, with good planning your small budget won't ruin your party.

In order to keep an eye on the budget, create a list of items you need for the party, distribute the money accordingly, and be determined that, come what may, you are going to stick to your budget!

Start by choosing a free or a very low-cost venue for your party. Instead of renting a banquet hall or a restaurant party space, why not hold the party at home or at a friend's house that has enough space to hold your guests? Or how about a picnic in a park or at the beech?

Also remember that the more guests you invite, the greater your expenses will be. Sure, it would be great to invite all your friends, but if you are on a tight budget, recognize that the more guests you have, the more things you need to prepare. Not just the food and drinks, but also it will require more invitations, tables, chairs, plates, glasses, utensils, etcetera. Even inexpensive plastic cutlery, cups and paper plates will quickly add up, and your expenses can spiral out of control.

You can further cut expenses if you use your regular flatware, dinnerware and glassware, or just try to mix and match if you don't have enough pieces in one set. Since buying or even renting any of these things would be costly, consider borrowing the items you don't have from family and friends.

Another great way to reduce your expenses is to get others of your friends involved in the party planning and spread the party expenses among several people, or even several families. Not only will that cut your costs, but another advantage is that with the help of your friends, you very likely will find that you will be able to come up with creative solutions to lower your party expenses. For example brainstorm about invitations, decorations, food and favors that are simple, inexpensive and that you can make yourself instead of buying expensive versions.

For example instead of spending money on invitations, why not send out email invitations? You'll need your guests email addresses, but these invitations are easy to make, and even more importantly, they don't cost anything!

An important tip to help you stick to your budget is to choose a theme for your party that is inexpensive in every way-from food and drinks to decorations.

When it comes to food one idea is to make it just a desserts only affair. Or you could make it potluck. You can even make some picnic type parties ones where everyone is responsible for bringing their own food. Again this is a good time to remember what was stated earlier, that you want to focus on the really important things, not how elaborate or costly you can make it, but honoring special people, strengthening bonds with loved ones, and relaxing and just having a good time.

Just keep an eye on your budget and you will be on the right track. Without spending a fortune, there are many creative ways to make your party a memorable one. I've only scratched the surface, but hopefully I've started you thinking in the right direction. If so, your creativity will find other ways to keep your budget under control.
